*Persicaria tinctoria* (also known as *Polygonum tinctorium*) is a medicinal plant and natural dye source belonging to the Polygonaceae family. Traditionally used in Southeast Asian medicine, it contains bioactive compounds such as indigo, indirubin, tryptanthrin, and various flavonol glycosides. Research indicates that extracts of the plant possess potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of inflammatory conditions like ulcerative colitis, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis, as well as for its potential in bone metabolism (periodontal disease) and oncology. Its mechanism involves the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β) and the inhibition of the NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways.
