Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Persimmon leaves are the foliage of the persimmon tree (Diospyros spp., especially Diospyros kaki and Diospyros virginiana), traditionally used in East Asian medicine. They are rich in antioxidants (flavonoids such as rutin and quercetin), polyphenols, vitamins (notably vitamin C), tannins and minerals. Persimmon leaves have been used for their purported antihypertensive (blood pressure-lowering), anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and blood sugar-regulating effects. Mechanistically these effects are attributed to their high content of flavonoids and polyphenols which may support vascular health by improving endothelial function and reducing oxidative stress[4][5][6][8]. The most common preparations include teas or tisanes made from dried or fresh leaves; they are also available as powders or capsules for dietary supplementation[6][7]. While widely consumed as a traditional remedy for hypertension, diabetes/prediabetes management[4], digestive issues[7], skin health[6], insomnia[9] and general wellness support in Japan/China/Korea—robust clinical evidence supporting these uses is limited.
