This personalized cancer vaccine, developed by the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) in Taiwan, utilizes a patient's own dendritic cells (DCs) primed with predicted neoantigens. Neoantigens are mutated proteins unique to an individual's tumor, making them highly specific targets for the immune system. By loading these neoantigens onto autologous dendritic cells, the therapy aims to elicit a robust and specific T-cell response against the tumor, potentially overcoming the limitations of traditional tumor lysate or CEA-derived vaccines. In clinical settings, this vaccine is being evaluated for refractory stage IV solid tumors, including pancreatic, liver, biliary tract, and colorectal cancers, sometimes in combination with the multi-kinase inhibitor lenvatinib and the PD-1 inhibitor nivolumab to counteract the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment.
