Overview

A personalized neoantigen vaccine designed to treat clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). This therapeutic vaccine is custom-built for each patient by analyzing the DNA and RNA from their tumor to identify unique mutated proteins (neoantigens) present only in the cancer cells. The vaccine then trains the patient's immune system, specifically T cells, to recognize and destroy these neoantigens, thereby targeting and eliminating remaining cancer cells after surgery. This approach aims to "steer" the immune system towards tumor-specific targets, offering a more precise and potentially less toxic treatment compared to general immunotherapies. Early phase 1 clinical trials have shown promising results in patients with high-risk stage III or IV ccRCC, demonstrating robust anti-cancer immune responses and prolonged cancer-free survival with manageable side effects. The research has been led by institutions such as Yale Cancer Center and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
