Overview
PERT-IJS is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody and a proposed biosimilar to pertuzumab (Perjeta). It is designed to target the extracellular dimerization domain (subdomain II) of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein. By binding to this specific domain, PERT-IJS inhibits the heterodimerization of HER2 with other members of the HER family, including EGFR, HER3, and HER4, thereby suppressing downstream signaling pathways such as the mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase and phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) pathways. Additionally, it induces antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC). Developed by Biocon Biologics, PERT-IJS is currently in Phase 3 clinical development for the neoadjuvant treatment of patients with HER2-positive, hormone receptor-negative early-stage or locally advanced breast cancer.
