Pertussis immune globulin (P-IGIV) is a high-titer intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) developed by the IWK Health Centre for the treatment of severe pertussis (whooping cough) in infants and children. It is a biologic therapeutic derived from the plasma of human donors who have been recently immunized with an acellular pertussis vaccine, resulting in high concentrations of polyclonal antibodies against *Bordetella pertussis* antigens, most notably the pertussis toxin (PTx). The therapeutic intent is to provide passive immunity to neutralize the toxin and mitigate severe clinical manifestations such as paroxysmal coughing, apnea, and bradycardia. Although the drug reached Phase 3 clinical testing in a randomized, placebo-controlled multicenter trial, development was hindered by the expiration of product lots and supply issues, leading to the termination of the study.
