Pertussis immune globulin (human) is a sterile solution of gamma globulin prepared from the pooled plasma of human donors who have been immunized with pertussis vaccine and possess high titers of antibodies against *Bordetella pertussis*. It is designed to provide passive immunity by delivering pre-formed polyclonal antibodies directly to the patient. Historically, it was indicated for the post-exposure prophylaxis of pertussis (whooping cough) in non-immunized individuals and for the treatment of the disease, particularly in infants. The mechanism of action involves the neutralization of pertussis toxin and other virulence factors, as well as the opsonization of the bacteria to facilitate clearance by the immune system. However, its clinical efficacy has been debated, and it has largely been replaced in modern clinical practice by active immunization (DTaP/Tdap vaccines) and early administration of macrolide antibiotics. In many jurisdictions, including the United States, the product has been discontinued or is no longer recommended for routine use.
