The pertussis vaccine candidate from the Butantan Foundation is a recombinant acellular vaccine (r-aP) developed to provide protection against *Bordetella pertussis*, the bacterium responsible for whooping cough. The vaccine is intended to serve as a safer, highly immunogenic, and cost-effective alternative to whole-cell vaccines, particularly for use as a booster in adolescents and adults or as part of a primary immunization series in infants.
