Overview

Peruvoside is a cardenolide glycoside (cardiac glycoside) extracted from Thevetia neriifolia. It acts primarily as an inhibitor of sodium-potassium ATPase (Na+, K+-ATPase), leading to increased intracellular calcium in cardiac cells and resulting in positive inotropic effects. Peruvoside has been used for the treatment of heart failure and other cardiac disorders. In addition to its cardiotonic activity, it demonstrates anti-cancer properties by inducing apoptosis in leukemia and prostate cancer cell lines at lower concentrations than other cardiac glycosides such as digoxin or strophanthidin. Recent research also suggests broad-spectrum antiviral activity against positive-sense RNA viruses[2][4][5][9].
