Overview

**PESDA microbubbles** are an investigational perfluorocarbon-gas ultrasound microbubble formulation made with sonicated dextrose albumin. Developed initially as an intravenous echocardiographic contrast agent, PESDA was also studied as an ultrasound-responsive carrier for localized vascular delivery of bound oligonucleotides, genes, and proteins. The albumin shell can bind antisense oligonucleotides, while low-frequency ultrasound can disrupt microbubbles and enhance local payload deposition or thrombolysis. Preclinical studies investigated anti-c-myc delivery to injured coronary and carotid arteries to reduce neointimal hyperplasia, ultrasound-enhanced declotting of thrombosed arteriovenous dialysis grafts, and VEGF delivery for myocardial angiogenesis. PESDA has no established marketed brand or single commercial sponsor. ([pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16513520/))
