Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pest-Vac is a live attenuated veterinary vaccine developed by FARVET for the active immunization of swine against Classical Swine Fever (CSF), also known as hog cholera. The vaccine utilizes the Chinese strain (C-strain) of the Classical Swine Fever virus, which has been modified through serial passage to lose its virulence while retaining the ability to replicate within the host. This replication stimulates a robust and long-lasting immune response, including both humoral (antibody) and cellular components, without inducing clinical disease. Pest-Vac is primarily used in endemic regions to prevent outbreaks of CSF, a highly contagious and economically devastating viral disease in the porcine industry. It is typically administered to healthy piglets and breeding stock via intramuscular injection.
