PET500

PET500 is an investigational veterinary antiviral small molecule developed by Anivive Lifesciences for the treatment of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP). FIP is a devastating and historically fatal systemic disease in cats caused by certain strains of feline coronavirus (FCoV). PET500 acts as a 3C-like protease (3CLpro) inhibitor; the 3CLpro is a critical viral enzyme responsible for processing the viral polyproteins into functional units required for replication. By binding to and inhibiting this protease, PET500 effectively halts the viral life cycle. It is a prodrug of GC376, a compound that has demonstrated clinical efficacy in reversing FIP symptoms. PET500 is being developed as an oral formulation to provide a convenient and effective treatment option for a condition that previously had no approved therapies.
