Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Petitgrain essential oil is derived from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree (Citrus aurantium) through steam distillation. It has a fresh, floral, slightly woody aroma and is widely used in aromatherapy for its calming and relaxing effects. The oil is known to help alleviate stress, anxiety, insomnia, nervous tension, palpitations, and mood disorders such as depression. It also has antiseptic properties that make it useful for treating skin conditions like acne and excessive sebum production. Additionally, it can act as a deodorant due to its ability to control perspiration[1][3][5]. The main constituents include linalyl acetate (~50%), linalool (~22%), geraniol, trans-beta-ocimene, beta-pinene, neryl acetate, and terpineol[3][7].
