petrolatum gauze

Petrolatum gauze is a sterile wound dressing consisting of woven or non-woven medical-grade gauze impregnated with white petrolatum (petroleum jelly). It is designed to provide a moist wound environment that promotes healing and minimizes discomfort. The occlusive barrier formed by the petrolatum helps retain moisture in the wound bed and prevents the dressing from adhering to tissue, reducing pain and trauma during dressing changes. This non-adherent property makes it especially suitable for burns (superficial and partial-thickness), skin grafts (both donor and recipient sites), abrasions, lacerations, minor cuts, surgical wounds including staple/suture lines, pressure ulcers (stage II-IV), tunneling wounds, circumcisions, umbilical bandages for neonates, and other superficial or full-thickness wounds.
