PEV301 is a malaria vaccine candidate consisting of a synthetic peptide derived from the *Plasmodium falciparum* circumsporozoite protein (CSP) formulated within immunopotentiating reconstituted influenza virosomes (IRIVs). Developed by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH), the vaccine utilizes the virosome platform to serve as both a delivery vehicle and an adjuvant, enhancing the immune response by mimicking the presentation of a viral pathogen. The primary goal of PEV301 is to induce high levels of specific antibodies that target the sporozoite stage of the malaria parasite, thereby preventing infection of liver cells. Clinical evaluation in Phase Ia trials demonstrated that the vaccine is safe, well-tolerated, and capable of eliciting robust antibody responses in healthy volunteers. It was often evaluated alongside a companion vaccine, PEV302, which targets the apical membrane antigen 1 (AMA-1).
