Overview

PEV302 is a virosome-formulated synthetic peptide malaria vaccine candidate developed by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH). It consists of a synthetic peptide derived from the Apical Membrane Antigen 1 (AMA-1) of *Plasmodium falciparum*, which is coupled to Immunopotentiating Reconstituted Influenza Virosomes (IRIVs). The IRIV platform serves as both a delivery vehicle and an adjuvant to enhance the immunogenicity of the peptide. PEV302 is designed to induce high titers of antibodies that block the invasion of red blood cells by malaria merozoites. In Phase Ia clinical trials conducted between 2003 and 2005, the vaccine was found to be safe and well-tolerated, demonstrating higher immunogenicity at a 10 µg dose compared to a 50 µg dose.
