Overview
PEV7C1 is a virosome-formulated vaccine candidate developed by Pevion Biotech for the treatment and prevention of recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (RVVC). The vaccine utilizes Immunopotentiating Reconstituted Influenza Virosomes (IRIV) as both a delivery vehicle and an adjuvant to present the recombinant Secreted Aspartyl Proteinase 2 (Sap2) antigen, a key virulence factor of *Candida albicans*. PEV7C1 specifically designates the vaginal formulation (administered as a cream or capsule) designed to induce local mucosal immunity, distinguishing it from the intramuscular formulation, PEV7B. The drug reached Phase I clinical evaluation (NCT01067131) in pre-menopausal women but development was ultimately discontinued.
