Overview
pEXO-001, also known as pExo, is a human placenta-derived exosome product developed by Celularity, Inc. It is currently in preclinical development, primarily for the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA), specifically knee osteoarthritis (KOA). pEXO-001 consists of extracellular vesicles secreted from human postpartum placentas, containing a diverse array of cellular components such as proteins, microRNAs, lipids, cytokines, and chemokines. Its proposed mechanism of action involves delivering pro-regenerative factors, promoting chondrocyte migration and proliferation, suppressing inflammation and catabolism, and activating cell growth signaling pathways. These actions contribute to alleviating pain and restoring cartilage damage in OA.
