Overview
Peyote is a botanical/natural product derived from the *Lophophora williamsii* cactus, currently under development by Lophos Pharmaceuticals for various therapeutic applications. The product contains several alkaloids, most notably mescaline, a phenethylamine psychedelic that acts primarily as an agonist at the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor. Lophos is focusing on sustainable, ethical cultivation to address the endangered status of wild peyote populations while exploring its potential in treating mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression, as well as addiction and metabolic disorders like obesity. The company is developing both naturally-cultivated peyote for direct sale as a natural health product in Canada and standardized peyote-derived formulations for clinical research.
