PF-05180999 is an orally administered small molecule inhibitor of phosphodiesterase 2A (PDE2A), developed by Pfizer. It acts by inhibiting PDE2A, an enzyme that hydrolyzes both cAMP and cGMP, thereby increasing their intracellular levels. This mechanism is thought to modulate signaling pathways relevant to psychiatric and neurological disorders. Preclinical studies demonstrated neuroprotective effects and antidepressant/anxiolytic-like activity in animal models via enhanced cAMP/cGMP signaling in the hippocampus.
