PF-07836394 is a self-amplifying ribonucleic acid (saRNA) vaccine candidate developed by Pfizer for the prevention of influenza. Unlike conventional mRNA vaccines, saRNA vaccines utilize a viral replicase (often derived from alphaviruses) to enable the RNA to self-replicate within the host cell cytoplasm. This self-amplification mechanism leads to high levels of antigen expression from a relatively low initial dose of RNA, potentially improving the magnitude and breadth of the immune response. PF-07836394 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials (e.g., NCT05944523) to determine its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adults, as part of Pfizer's broader program to develop next-generation seasonal influenza vaccines.
