PF-07871987 is a self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) vaccine candidate developed by Pfizer for the prevention of influenza. Unlike conventional mRNA vaccines, saRNA vaccines encode not only the antigen of interest (typically influenza hemagglutinin) but also a viral replicase complex, which enables the intracellular replication of the RNA template. This self-amplification process leads to higher levels of antigen expression and potentially allows for lower vaccine doses compared to standard mRNA vaccines.
