Originally developed by Metsera and subsequently acquired by Pfizer, the drug is being investigated for the treatment of obesity and related metabolic disorders. It is engineered to have a prolonged half-life, potentially enabling a once-monthly subcutaneous dosing schedule. By simultaneously activating both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, PF-08653945 aims to provide superior weight loss and glycemic control compared to GLP-1 mono-agonists by leveraging synergistic metabolic pathways that regulate satiety, insulin secretion, and energy expenditure.
