Overview

PF-9601N is a **potent and selective non-amphetamine monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) inhibitor** with over 1000-fold selectivity for MAO-B versus MAO-A and notable neuroprotective properties, especially in preclinical models of Parkinson’s disease and neurodegeneration. It acts by inhibiting MAO-B, which reduces breakdown of dopamine and other neurotransmitters, limits oxidative stress, and protects against mitochondrial permeability transition and apoptosis. Additional mechanisms include antioxidant activity and stabilization of mitochondrial function, independent of MAO-B inhibition. PF-9601N has demonstrated the ability to protect dopaminergic cells from toxin-induced damage, prevent mitochondrial dysfunction, and inhibit excitotoxic and apoptosis processes in various cellular and animal models[1][2][3][5][9][7].
