Overview

*Pfaffia paniculata* extract, commonly known as Brazilian ginseng or Suma, is a botanical extract derived from the roots of the *Pfaffia paniculata* plant. It is widely utilized as a dietary supplement and adaptogen, intended to enhance the body's resistance to stressors. The extract contains a variety of bioactive compounds, including pfaffic acid, saponins (pfaffosides), and ecdysteroids. Research indicates that the extract possesses significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Specifically, it has shown in vitro efficacy in inhibiting the growth and biofilm formation of oral pathogens such as *Fusobacterium nucleatum* and *Parvimonas micra*, which are implicated in gut dysbiosis and the progression of colorectal neoplasms. Despite its traditional use and promising preclinical data, it is not currently approved as a pharmaceutical drug for specific clinical indications.
