**PfCP-2.9** is a recombinant chimeric protein vaccine candidate developed as a blood-stage malaria vaccine targeting *Plasmodium falciparum*. The protein is composed of two cysteine-rich domains: the C-terminal 19 kDa region of the merozoite surface protein 1 (MSP1-19) and domain III of the apical membrane antigen 1 (AMA-1 III). Fusion of these domains enhances immunogenicity and the generation of inhibitory antibodies against *P. falciparum* parasites. Clinical testing (phase I) has shown the PfCP-2.9 formulation with Montanide ISA720 adjuvant to be safe, well-tolerated, and immunogenic in malaria-naïve adults. Antibody responses to PfCP-2.9 can recognize native parasite proteins and inhibit parasite growth in vitro. The structural integrity and conformational epitopes required for the biological activity of both domains are retained in the chimeric protein[1][3][4][5].
