Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine Bivalent is an mRNA vaccine formulated in lipid nanoparticles. It contains nucleoside-modified mRNA encoding the viral spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2, with components targeting both the original strain and specific Omicron variants (BA.4/BA.5). The vaccine works by delivering mRNA into host cells, which then produce the viral spike protein. This transient expression of the spike antigen induces neutralizing antibody and cellular immune responses against SARS-CoV-2, providing protection against COVID-19. The bivalent formulation was designed to provide broader protection against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants.
