Overview

PG201 is an ethanol extract derived from a combination of 12 medicinal herbs, developed as a phytopharmaceutical for the treatment of osteoarthritis and other inflammatory diseases involving cartilage destruction. Its mechanism of action includes inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), suppression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), reduction in prostaglandin E2 and nitric oxide production, and upregulation of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP). These actions result in anti-inflammatory effects, protection against cartilage erosion, reduced pain, improved joint function, and potential regeneration of damaged tissues. The drug has been approved for use in South Korea under the brand name Layla for osteoarthritis[1][2][3][6].
