PGP-011 is a preclinical-stage, precision RNA-based therapeutic being developed by ProGenis Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. The drug utilizes a novel oligonucleotide chemistry known as thiomorpholinos (TMOs), which function as targeted modulatory oligonucleotides (TMOs) or antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs). PGP-011 is designed to target a specific gene that encodes a cellular enzyme involved in the development of insulin resistance. By inhibiting the production of this enzyme, the drug aims to restore the body's natural responsiveness to insulin action, thereby addressing the underlying cause of Type 2 Diabetes rather than just managing systemic blood glucose levels. The technology was co-developed by Professor Rakesh Veedu of Murdoch University and Professor Marvin Caruthers of the University of Colorado.
