Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PGX-processed yeast beta glucan (PGX-YBG) is an immunomodulating therapeutic being developed by Ceapro Inc. in collaboration with McMaster University. It is produced using Ceapro's proprietary Pressurized Gas eXpanded (PGX) technology, which processes yeast beta-glucan into low-density, highly porous microparticles with a uniform size suitable for deep lung inhalation. Initially explored as a carrier for other drugs, research showed that PGX-YBG itself has therapeutic potential as an active anti-fibrotic agent by reprogramming macrophages. The development program, supported by grants from the National Research Council of Canada, is primarily focused on creating an inhalable treatment for COVID-19, post-COVID conditions, and other fibrotic lung diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The product is advancing towards a potential Phase 1 clinical trial.
