Overview

PGX-YBG is a novel inhalable therapeutic composed of yeast beta-glucan microparticles processed using Pressurized Gas eXpanded (PGX) technology. This processing produces particles with higher surface area, lower density, and smaller, more uniform size distribution compared to conventional yeast beta-glucans. PGX-YBG acts as an immunomodulator by reprogramming pro-fibrotic M2-like macrophages into fibrosis-suppressing macrophages through activation of the Dectin-1 receptor without significant activation of TLR 2/4. It is being developed primarily for treatment and prevention of fibrotic lung diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and COVID-19 related lung fibrosis. The drug is designed for deep lung delivery via inhalation using a hand-held device, enabling it to reach alveolar tissues where fibrogenesis occurs. Preclinical studies in mice have shown safety and efficacy in preventing fibrogenesis and modulating immune response in lungs.
