PH-12 is a synthetic pherine (vomeropherin) small molecule that was developed by Pherin Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). As a vomeropherin, PH-12 is designed for intranasal administration to target receptors in the vomeronasal organ (VNO), a specialized sensory structure in the nasal cavity. Unlike traditional systemic anxiolytics, PH-12 does not require absorption into the bloodstream or crossing of the blood-brain barrier; instead, it triggers rapid neural signals from the VNO to the hypothalamus and amygdala. This mechanism modulates the activity of the autonomic nervous system and emotional processing centers to alleviate anxiety symptoms. While it reached Phase 2 clinical trials, development appears to have stalled or been deprioritized in favor of other pherine candidates like fasedienol (PH94B).
