Overview

PH15 is an investigational synthetic pherine administered as a nasal spray for the treatment of cognitive impairment, particularly psychomotor and cognitive impairment caused by mental fatigue. It belongs to a novel class of compounds called pherines. Unlike traditional CNS drugs, PH15 acts locally in the nasal cavity by targeting chemosensory (GPC-peripheral) receptors that activate neural circuits in the limbic system—specifically olfactory-amygdala and olfactory-hippocampus pathways—without requiring systemic absorption or direct action on brain neurons. This mechanism is fundamentally differentiated from currently approved treatments for cognitive impairment. The drug has demonstrated rapid onset of action and an excellent safety profile in clinical trials to date. Originally developed by Pherin Pharmaceuticals, development was taken over by Vistagen following its acquisition of Pherin[1][2][3][4][5][8].
