Overview

Phage cocktail-SPK is a topical mixture of bacteriophages (viruses that specifically infect bacteria), designed as an adjunct treatment to standard care for wound infections. This phage cocktail targets several clinically significant pathogens—*Staphylococcus aureus*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*—with the primary intention of preventing or reducing these bacteria in wound settings, notably in burn wounds. Bacteriophages act by binding to bacterial cell surfaces, injecting their genetic material, and lysing (destroying) the bacteria through the lytic life cycle. This modality is being explored as an alternative or adjunct to antibiotics, especially against multidrug-resistant bacteria. The intervention is currently under clinical investigation for its safety, tolerability, and efficacy in reducing wound colonization and improving wound healing outcomes[5].
