Overview

A phage cocktail targeting *Klebsiella pneumoniae* is a therapeutic approach that uses a combination of multiple bacteriophages (viruses that infect and kill bacteria) to specifically target and lyse *Klebsiella pneumoniae*. This strategy is being actively developed as an alternative or adjunct to traditional antibiotics, particularly for treating infections caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) strains, such as carbapenem-resistant *K. pneumoniae* (CRKP). [5, 7, 16] The use of a 'cocktail' containing several different phages helps to broaden the spectrum of activity against various strains of the bacterium and reduces the likelihood of the bacteria developing resistance. [2, 3] Some advanced approaches involve engineering the phages with CRISPR-Cas3 technology to enhance their bactericidal activity (a crPhage™) or using them in synergy with antibiotics to increase efficacy. [1, 9, 17] While phage therapy has been used compassionately in some clinical cases, it is largely in the preclinical and early clinical stages of development for *K. pneumoniae* infections. [2, 4, 6]
