Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phage FT5P is a novel siphovirus bacteriophage isolated from wastewater at Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro in Madrid, Spain. It is being investigated for its preclinical therapeutic potential against vancomycin-resistant *Enterococcus faecium* (VREfm) infections, a high-priority nosocomial pathogen. FT5P has a 56 Kbp genome encoding 89 genes, with no lysogeny, toxin, antimicrobial resistance, or virulence genes. In preclinical studies, the phage demonstrated stability across a wide pH range (4.5–10.5) and physiological temperatures, and showed significant antibiofilm activity, preventing up to 70% of biofilm formation and reducing the viability of established biofilms. It also exhibits synergistic interactions when combined with phage FT2P and additive effects with daptomycin.
