Drug intelligence / Profile preview
phage KPN2177 (also known as bacteriophage KPN2177) is a strictly lytic bacteriophage isolated from wastewater at Verona University Hospital [P2702]. It has a genome size of approximately 50 kb encoding 85 proteins [P2702]. Phage KPN2177 is being investigated for its antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) and β-lactamase-producing *Klebsiella pneumoniae* strains, including carbapenemase VIM-1, KPC, and NDM producers [P2702]. In preclinical studies, phage KPN2177 has demonstrated synergistic bactericidal activity when combined with the carbapenem antibiotic meropenem, showing enhanced and prolonged inhibition of bacterial growth and preventing the regrowth typically observed with phage-only treatments [P2702].
