Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phage pastilles (commercially known as Phagovita) are a sustained-release, oral lozenge formulation developed by the George Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology and Virology and Eliava BioPreparations. The formulation combines a broad-spectrum cocktail of lytic bacteriophages (including those from the Pyophage and Intestiphage cocktails, as well as the novel Streptococcus pyogenes-targeting phage vB_SPY_7) with plant-derived active ingredients such as eucalyptus oil or sage oil/extract. Designed to treat infections of the oral cavity and upper respiratory tract, Phagovita provides localized, prolonged antimicrobial activity against key pathogens like Streptococcus spp., Staphylococcus spp., Enterococcus spp., and Escherichia coli, while minimizing disruption to the surrounding healthy microbiome. It is commercially available in Georgia as an alternative or adjunctive therapy to combat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections.
