PhageBioderm

PhageBioderm (also spelled PhagoBioDerm) is a topical bacteriophage therapy product. It consists of biodegradable, amino acid-based patches or films impregnated with a cocktail of bacteriophages. [9, 11] These phages are viruses that specifically target and kill several species of pathogenic bacteria, including *Escherichia coli*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, *Staphylococcus aureus*, *Proteus*, and *Streptococcus*. The product is designed to treat bacterial infections in chronic wounds, such as burns and diabetic foot ulcers. [9, 15] Developed in Georgia, it represents a form of phage therapy with origins in the Soviet era and is licensed for sale in Georgia. [5, 11] The product was developed by scientists from the Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology and Virology and the Research Center for Medical Polymers and Biomaterials and was commercialized through the Phage Therapy Center, which was later acquired by the US company Phage International. [11]
