Overview

Phagesti is a bacteriophage cocktail developed by Biochimpharm for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal infections. It contains specific bacteriophages that selectively target and lyse pathogenic bacteria, including *Shigella*, *Salmonella*, *Escherichia coli*, *Proteus*, *Staphylococcus*, *Pseudomonas*, and *Enterococcus*. The product is approved in Georgia for indications such as shigellosis, salmonellosis, typhoid, paratyphoid, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), dysbacteriosis, enterocolitis, infectious colitis, and dyspepsia. Its mechanism of action involves the viral infection of susceptible bacterial cells, leading to their destruction without affecting the natural gut microbiota.
