Overview
Phago-ENKO is a polyvalent bacteriophage preparation developed by Eliava Biopreparations for the treatment and prophylaxis of various enteric bacterial infections. It consists of a sterile filtrate of phage lysates specifically targeting *Staphylococcus*, *Shigella* (including *S. flexneri* and *S. sonnei*), enteropathogenic *Escherichia coli*, and multiple serovars of *Salmonella* (such as *S. typhimurium* and *S. enteritidis*). The mechanism of action involves the specific attachment of phages to bacterial cell wall receptors, followed by DNA injection, viral replication, and subsequent lysis of the host bacteria. It is indicated for conditions such as dysentery, salmonellosis, dyspepsia, colitis, gastroenterocolitis, cholecystitis, staphylococcal toxic infections, and dysbiosis. The product is typically administered orally or rectally and is classified as a paratherapeutic product in its country of origin, Georgia.
