Overview

Phago-Intesti is a therapeutic bacteriophage cocktail developed by Eliava Biopreparations for the treatment and prevention of acute and chronic intestinal infections. The preparation consists of a sterile filtrate of phage lysates that specifically target and lyse a broad spectrum of enteric pathogens, including *Shigella*, *Salmonella*, *Escherichia coli*, *Proteus*, *Staphylococcus*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Enterococcus*. The mechanism of action involves the specific attachment of bacteriophages to receptors on the surface of target bacterial cells, followed by the injection of viral genetic material, replication within the host, and subsequent lysis (destruction) of the bacteria. This biological process effectively reduces the pathogen load without disrupting the commensal intestinal microflora. Phago-Intesti is classified as a paratherapeutic product and is typically administered as an oral or rectal solution.
