Overview

Phalaris minor pollen extract is an allergenic biological product used for the diagnosis and treatment of Type I hypersensitivity reactions. As a diagnostic agent, it is utilized in skin prick testing to identify sensitization in patients presenting with allergic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, or asthma. In a therapeutic context, it is employed in allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT), where gradual exposure to increasing doses of the pollen extract induces immunological tolerance. The mechanism involves shifting the immune response from a Th2-dominated profile to a Th1/Treg profile, increasing the production of allergen-specific IgG4 (blocking antibodies), and reducing mast cell and basophil reactivity to the allergen.
