Overview

*Phellinus linteus* mycelium (PLM) is a bioactive extract derived from the vegetative part of the medicinal mushroom *Phellinus linteus*. It is characterized by its high content of polysaccharides, polyphenols, and flavonoids, which contribute to its diverse pharmacological profile. PLM exerts potent anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects by inhibiting the production of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), and pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α) through the suppression of NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. In preclinical models, it has demonstrated chondroprotective properties in osteoarthritis by inhibiting matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and reducing oxidative stress. Furthermore, PLM shows cardioprotective potential in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury by regulating autophagy via the AMPK/mTOR pathway and suppressing pro-apoptotic signaling. Clinical case reports also suggest potential antineoplastic activity, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma.
