Overview

Phellodendrine is a natural isoquinoline alkaloid found in several plant species, most notably in the bark of *Phellodendron amurense* (Amur cork tree) and related species. It is one of the major active constituents alongside berberine and palmatine. Phellodendrine has been reported to possess anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antifungal, and immunosuppressive properties. Its mechanism of action is not fully elucidated but may involve modulation of inflammatory pathways and inhibition of microbial growth. The compound has been studied primarily as a component of traditional herbal medicines rather than as an isolated pharmaceutical agent[6][9]. There are no approved pharmaceutical indications for isolated phellodendrine; its use remains largely within the context of botanical extracts.
