Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phellodendron amurense bark is a botanical extract derived from the Amur cork tree, widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and developed as a therapeutic agent, notably under the brand name Nexrutine. It contains bioactive alkaloids such as berberine, palmatine, jatrorrhizine, and phellodendrine. The extract exhibits anti-inflammatory and anti-neoplastic properties by inhibiting signaling pathways including Akt/CREB/MAPK and dual inhibition of STAT3 and NF-κB, which leads to the suppression of COX-2 and induction of apoptosis. It has been clinically evaluated for the treatment of prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and osteoarthritis, and is also available as a dietary supplement.
