Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phendimetrazine is a sympathomimetic amine, chemically related to amphetamines, primarily used as a short-term appetite suppressant for the management of exogenous obesity. It functions as a prodrug, being metabolized in the liver to its active form, phenmetrazine. Its therapeutic effect is achieved by stimulating the release of norepinephrine and dopamine in the brain, particularly in the hypothalamus, which leads to reduced appetite and increased energy expenditure. Elite Pharmaceuticals manufactures and distributes generic Phendimetrazine Tartrate 35 mg tablets, which are a generic equivalent of Bontril PDM®.
