phenmetrazine

Phenmetrazine is a sympathomimetic drug and central nervous system stimulant primarily used as an appetite suppressant for the treatment of obesity. It was originally marketed under the brand name Preludin but has since been withdrawn from most markets due to its high potential for abuse and addiction. Phenmetrazine acts by blocking the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine into presynaptic neurons, leading to increased release of these monoamines in the brain, which suppresses appetite and increases alertness. Its mechanism is similar to that of dextroamphetamine, functioning as a norepinephrine-dopamine releasing agent (NDRA) and also exhibiting some monoamine oxidase inhibitory activity. The drug was developed in the early 1950s as a substituted amphetamine derivative[3][5][6].
