Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Phenocaine Plus is a sterile, preservative-free intracameral injectable solution developed by Entod Pharmaceuticals for use in ophthalmic procedures, particularly cataract surgery. It is a fixed-dose combination of three active ingredients: lidocaine hydrochloride (a local anesthetic), phenylephrine hydrochloride (an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist), and tropicamide (a muscarinic receptor antagonist). When administered intracamerally at the beginning of cataract surgery, Phenocaine Plus provides rapid and sustained intraocular anesthesia while simultaneously inducing and maintaining stable pupillary dilation (mydriasis) and cycloplegia. This combination eliminates the need for multiple preoperative dilating eye drops, thereby simplifying the surgical workflow, reducing ocular surface toxicity, and enhancing patient comfort and safety during the procedure.
