Overview

PHENOGENE-1A is an inhaled formulation of cromolyn sodium being developed by PhenoNet as an adjuvant therapy to riluzole for the treatment of mild to moderate amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Cromolyn sodium is a well-established mast cell stabilizer that has demonstrated neuroprotective properties in preclinical models of neurodegeneration. The drug's mechanism in ALS involves the modulation of neuroinflammation, primarily through the inhibition of mast cell degranulation and the potential reduction of microglial activation. By targeting these inflammatory pathways, PHENOGENE-1A aims to slow the progression of motor neuron loss and preserve physical function in ALS patients. It is currently being evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to determine its efficacy in slowing disease progression when used alongside standard-of-care treatments.
